Escaping the Heat of Las Vegas

My friend Tim told me the other week that while a lot of the Mid West to the East coast of the USA had been suffering a heatwave in the 90's that there in Las Vegas it had been regularly 100 - 110 degrees and the only way to cool down (apart from air conditioning) was to escape to the mountains. So a few days ago he,along with Larry (BMW) their friend Tyler(Quota) and his daughter took themselves up to Mt Charleston which is approx 35mls north west of Vegas for some cooling air (80's)  On the way down they even had 10minutes of rain thrown in.
